GLOSSARY OF TERMS
bibliography : a list of the books, magazines, articles, websites, etc. that are mentioned in a text
citation: act of citing or referencing a quoted word or passage; the act of citing verbatim the spoken, written, or printed words of another
column : vertical arrangement of items
context : the situation in which something happens
data : factual information used as a basis for reasoning, discussion, or calculation
disparity : having market difference, dissimilarity, or inequality
flow chart : a schematic diagram which shows the progress of material through various steps in a process or the succession of operations in a complicated activity
fiction : fictitious literature; literature that has been imagined; a fabrication of the mind
graphic organizer : tool using visual symbols to demonstrate knowledge, concepts, thoughts, or ideas and the relationship between or among them; also known as a knowledge map or concept map
metaphor : a figure of speech in which a word or phrase denoting one kind of object or action is used in place of another to suggest a likeness or analogy between them
method : a procedure or process
mind map : a diagram used to outline information in a visual format; usually centered around a single word or concepts, associated ideas and words branch out from the central concept
nonfiction : literary works other than novels or stories; works based on factual information or experiences had in real life
organize : to arrange or constitute into a coherent unity; to unify into a coordinated functioning whole
plagiarism : an act in which one steals or passes off as one's own the ideas or words of another; instance in which one uses a created production without crediting the source
record : to set down in writing; to make an objective lasting indication of something in some mechanical or automatic way; to register permanently by mechanical means
row : horizontal arrangement of items
Venn diagram : graphic method which uses circles or ovals to represent relationships between or among concepts, ideas, or items
